Day 3: Watch our Modular Home Built in Minutes

After two long but exciting days, our modular house was finally ready for the roof. This was the moment that would make it feel like a real home. The pressure was on because rain was in the forecast, and the house needed to be sealed before the weather turned.

It was another cold November morning, the kind where your fingers go numb the moment you take off your gloves, but the team was in good spirits. Today’s goal was clear: lift the roof trusses, secure the waterproof layer, and make the house officially weatherproof.

Constructing the Roof

Today was fully dedicated to putting the roof in place. In the first part of the day, all the roof trusses were lifted and positioned, marking the end of the crane work for the house.

Once the trusses were in place, the underlayment was rolled out, distance battens were installed, and part of the roof battens were added. This underlayment is crucial—it protects the house from rain until the final roof covering is installed.

Making the House Airtight

At the same time, we focused on making the house airtight. For a modern, energy-efficient home, every connection along the outer walls needs to be properly taped. We used special tape for this, making sure no screws or holes in the outer perimeter were left untaped. It’s crucial at this stage because airtight walls keep heat inside and prevent drafts. The roof is not part of the airtight space, so the house already feels a bit stuffy—but nothing to worry about. Once the ventilation is in place, the indoor air will be ideal. For now, with winter outside and people constantly coming and going, there’s more than enough air for breathing.

By the end of the day, the house was completely weatherproof and no longer vulnerable to rain. Next week the metal roofing should arrive, but before that, the remaining battens will be installed. Roof battens create a solid framework for attaching the final roofing material and ensure proper ventilation beneath the roof.

celebration

Once the trusses were up, we followed a small tradition and treated the builders to a quick “party.” Maybe it was just an excuse for hot coffee and cake in the middle of a busy day, but no one complained. The celebration was brief and focused, because there was plenty of work to do and no time for dawdling.

Watch Three-Day Recap Video

These three days have already brought the most dramatic visual changes to the house. The main volumes are clearly in place, and the structure now looks like a real home.

Still to come: the large balcony and terrace at the back, the front balcony, windows, metal roof, and finishing the facade boards.

Because the entire process has been captured by a dedicated little camera, we’ve put together a short video summarizing these three intense days.

Watching the house go up from empty plot to weatherproof, airtight frame is amazing and really shows the speed and precision of modular construction.
